Street food seemed like the ideal socially-distancing eating option, and this place was just a few doors away from my hotel on Laugavegur.

Just like its near-namesake Icelandic Street Food down on Lækjargata, Reykjavík Street Food is a small-fronted food hut, with a few indoor seats and benches, plus some outdoor tables, offering a simple but appealing menu of cheap eats and soft drinks.

I opted for the fish and chips dish, plus a (very) light beer to go with it. A small-yet-perfectly-formed portion of fish arrived on my table in no time, delivered with a smile by the friendly server, and amply supported by well-cooked chips and a very tasty dip too.

Compared to many other restaurants and cafes in downtown Reykjavík, this was a great choice - tasty, straightforward, simple and cost-effective.

The owner is very open and interactive, some may feel scared at the same time, but he is a great host - makes sure everyone feels good. He is making a performance out of this experience.
