Reykjavik Street Food

As soon... read more as you walk in, the host is there with perfect Icelandic hospitality. He is gruff and loveable, and makes sure you know exactly how many sweets to eat before your food (all of them) and exactly how much food to get (all of it). He welcomed us like old friends when we came back, and seems to do this for everyone that comes in. It's absolutely lovely.

The food is brilliant. Street kitchen style, served in cardboard bowls from steaming kettles or fresh fryers. The fish is so fresh and had a brilliant recipe for the batter. We have also had the lambs stew, which the host INSISTED we have seconds of. It was some of the most incredible lamb I've ever had, but I think that's simply a feature of Iceland as a whole, rather than this specifically.

After, the host slyly slipped a chocolate wafer into our hands as we left. 'Save room for dessert'. With such a stern face, we were falling about laughing.

So, food is amazing thanks to freshness and amazing kitchen. The price is incredible. It's not fine dining by any stretch, but it's so cheap and so delicious! The location is great, right off the high street, and is so warm and welcoming from the cold. And the service is fast, fun, friendly and very Icelandic.

I can't recommend this place enough.

  Best fish and chips we have had (including the UK as well). Asteris was a top bloke. Looked after us with great service! Must visit for anyone in Iceland.

Owner was super fun , welcoming and generous with the candy! Staff was so friendly as well.
Food was really really good! Fish & chips had a slight curry taste in the batter & we loved that. The different sauced were all so good. We also had the chicken soup - amazing - the hint of ginger was so good!
Sit outside and enjoy these warm dishes while you look up the street at the church and all around at the people.
We even went back just before close - who said fish & chips aren't a good bedtime snack?!:)
