Reykjavik Street Food

  Amazing Fish and Chips. We were in Iceland for 10 days and ate fish almost everyday. The fish was meaty and ccooked perfectly.

We had a nice chat with the staff and even met the owner who popped in.
He is a kind & down to earth guy who gave us some tips for our journey and also some chocolate bars for free to takeaway.

You will probably not see many locals here, but still I can recommend this place as it will give you a good first impression of Iceland’s cuisine.
The prices are very reasonable compared to other places in Reykjavik.

1. Location

101... read more Street Food is located in a "no vehicle" pedestrian friendly part of Reykjavik and situated in what I would consider to be the "downtown area" of the city. It's a very short walk from the Hallgrimskirkja and/or the Harpa Concert Hall and is located along the "Rainbow Road" which ultimately leads directly up to the Hallgrimskirkja. It was super easy to find and located in a nice part of the city.

2. Staff/Seating

The restaurant offered both indoor and outdoor seating although we chose to eat outside on both visits. The indoor seating is very limited but there is an upstairs dining area that is not immediately noticeable that has additional seating. If you are visiting Reykjavik in the non-summer months, I can imagine it is probably pretty cold sitting outside (it was still a bit chilly even in August) but the restaurant actually had blankets that the guests sitting outside were welcome to use.

The staff was very friendly, and the service was good. The wait staff were extremely pleasant and the person who I believe to be the "manager" of the restaurant was particularly friendly and helpful.

3. Food/Price

The menu here is pretty limited but everything that we had to eat was absolutely delicious. The fish and chips were excellent; however, the lobster soup and seafood soup were the dishes that my family and I liked the best. The soup came with bread and was served very hot and was very filling. If I ever get to go back, I would very much like to sample the Traditional Icelandic Meat Soup which looked excellent as well.

The prices charged for the food were very reasonable. Reykjavik (and Iceland in general) are pretty expensive, but this place had great prices and we were able to have dinner for a family of four (two adults and two teenagers) for about 10,000 Krona (about 70 USD). That might sound like a lot to some, but in my opinion, those were outstanding prices, particularly in light of how good the food was. Other places we ate at while we were in Iceland were sometimes double the price of this restaurant and the food was just as good, if not better.

Overall, we really enjoyed eating at this restaurant. As I stated above, we liked the location and food so much that we ended up eating here twice while we were in Reykjavik. If you are looking for a great place to grab some great food at a reasonable price, look no further!!!!

Obviously i went for the fish and it was the freshest and most delicate Cod i have ever had, the batter which it was fried in was unbelievable. Everything about this little street food shop makes me want to eat there every day. I would recommend it to anyone wanting a true Icelandic hospitality experience.
